Province signs contract for SuperNet service
On Friday, June 29, 2018, the Alberta Government confirmed it had entered into a contract with Bell to provide SuperNet service and that a transition plan was in place to ensure no disruption of service.
AUMA has been aware of the concerns of our members who receive internet service through SuperNet. For the past several weeks, we had been in regular contact with Service Alberta to ensure our members would not be affected by any interruption in service, particularly after Axia suggested rural Albertans could lose internet service July 1. As the province was in the process of contract negotiations, the information Service Alberta could provide was very limited, but we had assurances from the Province that our members would not be negatively impacted.
We thank those of you who reached out with your concerns, as it helped us emphasize to the Province the need to provide more information about the continuance of service to our members. Broadband continues to be a key issue for AUMA and its members and we will continue to advocate for fast, reliable and affordable broadband connectivity in Alberta municipalities.
