Red Deer hosts memorable 2024 ABmunis Convention & Trade Show
For three exciting and action-packed days last month, Red Deer’s Westerner Park was the site of our annual Convention & Trade Show. More than 1,000 municipal leaders and 100 exhibitors took part in this year’s event, which ran from Sept. 25 to 27.
President Tyler Gandam expressed his and the association’s gratitude to the City of Red Deer, its council and its employees for being so welcoming.
“We couldn’t have asked for a warmer, friendlier reception,” said Gandam. “Thank you, Red Deer, for your hospitality. You were phenomenal hosts!”
The 15 information sessions that were delivered on Sept. 25 and 26 offered something for nearly everyone. Once again, our guest speakers and ABmunis’ talented Policy & Advocacy team did a great job of informing and entertaining everyone.
This year's Trade Show proved extremely popular with delegates. More than 100 different vendors from across Alberta showcase their products and services to help better serve our members. Delegates walked the rows of booths on Sept. 25 and 26, building connections and picking up some great giveaways as they went.
The Sept. 26 Resolutions session saw members discuss and vote on 21 resolutions that matter to them and the communities they represent. Even on the most contentious of resolutions, debate among delegates was respectful and engaging.
Delegates appreciated hearing from Premier Danielle Smith and Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi on Sept. 26. Their speeches were followed by Ministers’ Dialogue Sessions on Sept. 27. Fourteen cabinet ministers, including Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver, spoke about the work being done by their respective ministries and fielded questions from delegates.
Planning for next year’s event in Calgary is already underway. We look forward to seeing you again at the 2025 Convention & Trade Show.
