Update from the Legislature – April 17, 2024

The Legislature is in session this week, with another five sitting weeks scheduled for the spring session. Bill 18, The Provincial Priorities Act, was introduced April 10. If passed, it will require provincial entities, including municipalities, to receive prior approval from the provincial government before entering into “intergovernmental agreements” with the federal government or a federal entity. The details concerning the implementation of the legislation will be dealt with through regulation.  Municipal Affairs intends to conduct consultations on the regulations this summer. For more information on what municipalities should know about Bill 18, see this article.
