We should talk more … about municipal governance
Can’t get enough of the MGA? Good news - AUMA has updated the agenda for our Summer 2018 Municipal Leaders’ Caucus to create more opportunities for dialogue on hot topics in municipal governance.
Dialogue between Municipal Affairs and Small Communities
- June 12 - municipalities with populations of 2,500 and under
The Municipal Governance session will feature a dialogue with Alberta Municipal Affairs staff. The Ministry will provide an update on their programs and initiatives, such as the new Municipal Accountability Program, risk-based indicators, viability reviews, and inter-municipal collaboration frameworks. This session will provide the opportunity for attendees to ask questions and share perspectives with the Ministry. It will also include an update on the MGA change management tools that the AUMA and RMA are developing with the Ministry’s support.
Input on MGA Change Management Supports
- June 13 - municipalities with populations between 2,500 and 10,000,
- June 14 - municipalities with populations of over 10,000
The Municipal Governance session will give members an opportunity to provide input on the development of change management tools. We’re setting up stations around the room so attendees can pick which topic they would like to discuss – from offsite levies and Indigenous-municipal relations, to joint use and planning agreements with school boards and inter-municipal collaboration frameworks. Input from the sessions will be used to inform AUMA’s work with RMA and Municipal Affairs to develop MGA change management tools and supports.
If you haven’t already done so, register today to join us at the upcoming Municipal Leaders’ Caucus, June 12 to 14, in Camrose!
