Work on the Municipal Government Act continues with focus on taxation of grow-ops

While the majority of amendments to the Municipal Government Act (MGA) were proclaimed over a year ago, there is still work being done on the Act and related regulations. 

AUMA has updated our MGA page to provide members improved access to information on current issues, legislative and regulatory amendments, change management and AUMA’s engagement in ongoing work on the Act.

Of priority is the urgent need for the province to update the Matters Related to Assessment and Taxation Regulation to enable municipalities to assess and tax cannabis grow operations at fair market value.  AUMA’s advocacy efforts were recently strengthened by a resolution on this topic brought forward by the Town of Sundre at Convention. AUMA understands that Cabinet is still considering amendments to the regulation and we have reached out to the Premier to emphasize the importance of moving ahead with this issue.
